The Hispanic Motor Press Awards (HMPA) first debuted in 2010, with the objective of determining which vehicles offer the best value for the typical Hispanic family in the United States. More than 100 vehicles are initially considered, before the competition is narrowed to three finalists in different categories. Winners are chosen via a process consisting of test drives, analysis of mass market availability, and affordability data. In the end, HMPA chose the Optima and Sedona as their respective picks for Family Sedan and Minivan.
Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning for Kia, commented on the award, saying: "Passionately designed and obsessively crafted, the all-new Optima and our Sedona minivan appeal to families of all backgrounds by delivering world-class styling and quality, cutting-edge technology and tremendous value. The Hispanic market is an incredibly important audience for Kia as well as the entire auto industry, and this recognition from the Hispanic Motor Press Awards validates two of our most recently redesigned our vehicles as favorites amongst this group."
This is the latest accolade in a string of awards for the Kia brand, with recent honors coming from J.D. Power, Kelley Blue Book, and Road & Travel Magazine.
